Type Profile

ILE In Depth

A fuller reading from the source profile, following the eight Model A positions and their Model L sub-variants.

Ideation Model L element illustration

Position 1 — Base — Ne(T.) Ideation

The ILE's fundamental mode of engaging with reality is through the active generation and creative manipulation of concepts — brainstorming, exploring semantic possibilities, building and testing conceptual structures with detached architectural curiosity. Ne(T.) is not the personally felt sense of potentiality of Ne(F.) in the IEE but possibility evaluated from outside for its structural merit — ideas assessed for their conceptual architecture, their logical potential, the system they could constitute. The ILE does not feel possibilities from inside; they generate and manipulate them from a position of detached inventive delight. Ideation is automatic and effortless — the ILE cannot help encountering the world as a field of conceptual structures to be built, tested and reconfigured.

Intellect Model L element illustration

Position 2 — Creative — Ti(N.) Intellect

In service of Ideation, the ILE deploys the linguistic schema and interpretative framework of the mind — articulating concepts into coherent communicable structures, providing the logical architecture within which the conceptual exploration of Ne(T.) becomes meaningful. Ti(N.) is more visible in behaviour than Ne(T.) — more explicitly articulated, more structurally present — and ILEs are often experienced as theoretically penetrating, precisely articulate and capable of constructing explanatory frameworks with apparent ease. The Intellect serves the Ideation: the ILE generates the conceptual material and builds the logical architecture that gives it form.

Animus Model L element illustration

Position 4 — Vulnerable — Fi(S.) Animus

The ILE's point of greatest sensitivity. Fi(S.) is the totality of stable visceral attitudes of relational affinity and aversion — personal bonds, embodied loyalties, the felt sense of who is trusted and who is not as a physical reality. This is the furthest territory from the ILE's naturally detached, conceptually absorbed register. Being expected to navigate personal relational bonds with visceral fidelity, to maintain stable felt commitments to particular individuals, to operate from a position of embodied loyalty lands as a deeply uncomfortable demand. Criticism of their personal relational conduct hits hard; excessive pressure toward embodied relational consistency produces stress and defensiveness.

Impetus Model L element illustration

Position 3 — Role — Se(F.) Impetus

The ILE's performance function — the generation of visceral personal vital force and charismatic physical presence they are called upon to produce in certain contexts but find unnatural to sustain. Se(F.) sits uncomfortably against the ILE's detached, architecturally oriented conceptual register. They can assert personal presence and drive when the situation demands it but the viscerally embodied personal force mode is effortful and temporary. The conceptual field is what matters; the physical performance is something they produce when necessary and set down when possible.

Affect Model L element illustration

Position 6 — Mobilising — Fe(S.) Affect

Energising and uplifting when present in others. Fe(S.) — Affect — is the physiological conveyance of somatic feeling that creates shared atmospheric warmth and collective sensory ease. The ILE cannot easily generate this themselves but responds with animation and engagement when they encounter it — the warmth and ease of others creating conditions in which the ILE's detached conceptual work can be shared and received rather than remaining isolated in the abstract. Together with the Suggestive it defines the ILE's interpersonal chemistry.

Stimulation Model L element illustration

Position 5 — Suggestive — Si(F.) Stimulation

What the ILE most wants and responds to most positively in others. Si(F.) — Stimulation — is the subjective experience of physical vitality and sensory ease, the cultivation of comfort and felt wellbeing, the atmospheric conditions that make the immediate present feel genuinely good. The ILE cannot easily produce this themselves — their attention is absorbed in the conceptual field rather than the felt quality of present physical experience — but they experience it as deeply nourishing when it appears in others. Their dual SEI leads with exactly this element: the SEI's natural Stimulation is precisely what the ILE's Ideation yearns to be warmed by. Where the ILE builds the conceptual architecture, the SEI creates the felt conditions in which it can be inhabited rather than merely constructed.

Apprehension Model L element illustration

Position 7 — Ignoring — Ni(T.) Apprehension

Capable but uninteresting. Ni(T.) — the detached strategic awareness of temporal trends and long-term trajectories — is something the ILE can deploy but finds less compelling than the generative exploration of Ne(T.). Both are detached intuitive functions but they move in opposite directions: Ne(T.) opens outward toward what could conceptually exist; Ni(T.) closes inward toward what will actually happen. The ILE finds the broad generation of conceptual possibility more engaging than the focused tracking of temporal trajectory and deploys Ni(T.) only when the base has genuine need of it.

Reason Model L element illustration

Position 8 — Demonstrative — Te(N.) Reason

The ILE's strong background competence — abstract logical reasoning applied to facts and causal structures running automatically without the type fully registering it. Te(N.) — Reason — operates quietly in the background giving the ILE a natural capacity for accurate factual reasoning and causal analysis that others may notice before the ILE does themselves. The ILE often produces well-reasoned factual arguments without consciously attending to the Te(N.) work that generates them.

ILE character poster illustration

Overall Character

The ILE is the type most naturally oriented toward conceptual exploration as a self-generating creative act — the world encountered as an inexhaustible field of possible structures to be built, tested, reconfigured and understood. At their best they are the person who sees the conceptual architecture of a domain that others have not yet perceived, whose theoretical inventiveness is matched by logical precision, and whose enthusiasm for ideas is genuinely contagious because it is genuinely felt.

Their Alpha quadra membership means they value curiosity, clarity, the free exchange of ideas and the pleasure of genuine intellectual discovery. The ILE's conceptual exploration is not cold or territorial — it is oriented toward understanding, open to revision, and genuinely interested in whether the structures being built are actually correct. Their EP temperament makes them flexible and rapidly responsive — the ILE does not commit to fixed frameworks beyond the point where the evidence turns against them but moves fluidly through the conceptual landscape with immediate adaptive intelligence.

The ILE-SEI dual captures something essential about both types. The SEI provides the warmth, the atmospheric ease, the felt present reality — the conditions in which the ILE's detached conceptual work can be shared and inhabited rather than remaining abstract. The ILE provides the conceptual architecture — the ideas, the structures, the theoretical precision — that gives the SEI's comfortable present world its intellectual depth and possibility. Each makes the other's contribution complete.

Dual Relationship

ILE and SEI

Si(F.) Stimulation Model L element illustration

Si(F.) - Stimulation

Suggestive element

Ne(T.) Ideation Model L element illustration

Ne(T.) - Ideation

Suggestive element

ILE's dual is SEI — The Nurturer. ILE's Suggestive is Si(F.) — Stimulation: subjective bodily comfort, vitality, and the felt charge of physical experience. SEI leads with exactly this mode of sensation.

SEI's Suggestive is Ne(T.) — Ideation: active conceptual generation and the opening of possible meanings. ILE leads with that mode effortlessly. Each type gives what the other most welcomes without having to perform it as a special effort.

Duality relation illustration for ILE and SEI

Duality · with SEI — The Mediator

ILE and SEI

The ILE figure is doing Ne(T.) — Ideation. The imagination operates as deliberate architectural craft — concepts generated and connected from the outside, ideas built into structural form, the conceptual board filling with the organised architecture of possibilities being systematically explored. This is not inspiration felt from within. It is construction directed from without. The ILE is not experiencing the ideas as personally vivid and meaningful — they are manipulating them as objects, building and connecting them with the focused precision of someone whose imagination is a tool for making conceptual structure.

That kind of sustained conceptual construction has a specific environmental requirement. It needs the physical surroundings to recede — to become warm, comfortable, unobtrusively good — so that nothing pulls attention away from the work. The ILE is not attending to the physical environment and cannot sustain that inattention if the environment is draining or uncomfortable. What is needed is a somatic ease that simply holds, quietly and continuously, without requiring any of the ILE's attention to maintain it.

Identity relation illustration for ILE and ILE

Identity · with ILE — The Inventor

ILE and ILE

Two ILE types encounter in each other a concept space that doubles without limit. Every connection traced by one is immediately comprehensible to the other — and immediately extended. The branching architecture expands in both directions with complete mutual intelligibility, each recognising in the other the same quality of detached exploratory conceptual energy.

What doubles: Ne(T.) generativity, architectural concept production, semantic possibility mapping. Ti(N.) structural resolution — the framework-building that serves conceptual exploration — also doubles. Two instances of the same expansive analytical mode producing in parallel.

Mirror relation illustration for ILE and LII

Mirror · with LII — The Analyst

ILE and LII

In Model A, Mirror partners carry each other's Ego functions in swapped positions. LII leads with Ti(N.) and creates with Ne(T.). ILE leads with Ne(T.) and creates with Ti(N.). The same two functions, the same two sub-variants, reversed priority. Each type has immediate and complete access to what the other is doing — not the strained comprehension of Super-Ego, not the mutual bypass of Quasi-identity, but genuine recognition. The friction is not incomprehension. It is a persistent disagreement about which of the two shared tools should be in charge.

Model L makes the specific inversion visible.

Activity relation illustration for ILE and ESE

Activity · with ESE — The Host

ILE and ESE

Same structural rule. ILE's Ego fills ESE's Super-Id with inverted priority; ESE's Ego fills ILE's Super-Id with inverted priority. Full element and sub-variant correspondence. Priority slightly off-centre throughout.

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation and creates with Ti(N.) Intellect. The ESE's Super-Id seeks Ti(N.) as Suggestive — what ESE most deeply wants — and Ne(T.) as Activating. ILE's conceptual generation energises the ESE into atmospheric responsiveness; the structural logical clarity that emerges from the exploration is what the ESE most wants to receive.

Kindred relation illustration for ILE and IEE

Kindred · with IEE — The Inspirer

ILE and IEE

The ILE and IEE are both doing Ne. Both are generative, both energised by possibility, both inhabit the domain of what could be with genuine aliveness. The Kindred recognition between them is one of the most immediately visible in the system — both light up in each other's presence, both recognise the other as someone who sees what is possible rather than only what is. The ILE/IEE distinction is also one of the most discussed in WSS typing practice, and the T./F. split provides the structural account that practice has long needed.

The ILE's Ne(T.) is the rational/detached deployment of an irrational element — imagination as the active deliberate generation and manipulation of concepts from the outside. Ideas are built architecturally: conceptual structures constructed, semantic possibilities explored, the imagination operating as intellectual craft directed at conceptual form. The ILE is working with possibilities as external objects to be examined and connected.

Semi-Duality relation illustration for ILE and SLI

Semi-Duality · with SLI — The Craftsman

ILE and SLI

Same structural rule. Each type's leading function provides the right element, wrong sub-variant for the other's Suggestive.

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation — detached conceptual imagination, architectural generation of concept space from outside it. The SLI's Suggestive is Ne(F.) — felt aliveness to possibility, inspiration experienced from inside as personally vivid and significant. ILE provides Ne(T.) instead: conceptual architecture mapped with analytical detachment, possibility space explored as structure. The element is right — the SLI genuinely values and seeks Ne — but the SLI most deeply wants the personally felt charge of inspiration, the sense of possibility that arrives with inner significance, and what arrives is concept generation that is structurally rich but analytically distanced. Genuinely stimulating. Slightly outside itself rather than felt from within.

Business relation illustration for ILE and SLE

Business · with SLE — The Marshal

ILE and SLE

The ILE and SLE can work alongside each other. Both are detached, both are precise, both are externally directed in their engagement with the world. Neither operates from personal felt charge or visceral internal drive. From the outside they can appear to occupy complementary roles — the ILE mapping the possibilities, the SLE executing decisively among them. The shared T. sub-variant creates a genuine surface of mutual recognition. Each can see what the other is doing and understand it as a legitimate form of precise external engagement with the world. This is what makes them Business/Lookalike in Model L. They can function professionally alongside each other in a way the full Conflict versions cannot manage as easily.

The ILE figure is doing Ne(T.) — Ideation. Possibilities are being generated and connected with architectural precision — concepts built as external objects, the branching field mapped with detached craft, multiple routes held open simultaneously because the ILE is constructing the possibility space from the outside and premature closure is a genuine loss. The ILE is not feeling the aliveness of the possibilities from the inside. They are building the structure of what could be with the cool focus of an architect working from a remove. Precision and openness are both part of the work.

Illusionary relation illustration for ILE and IEI

Illusionary · with IEI — The Mystic

ILE and IEI

Same structural rule, now on the irrational axis.

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation — detached conceptual imagination, architectural generation of concept space. In IEI's Model L stack, Ne(T.) sits at the A3 Ignoring position. IEI finds it uninteresting and unrewarding to engage directly.

Quasi-Identity relation illustration for ILE and LIE

Quasi-Identity · with LIE — The Entrepreneur

ILE and LIE

Same structural rule. LIE's Ne sits at position 8 — naturally used, present in background operation, not what LIE orients toward as primary. ILE's Te sits at position 8 — equally natural, equally present, equally not oriented toward.

Of the eight Quasi-identical pairings, this one produces the most energetically active surface resemblance. Both types are intellectually driven, outward-projecting, generative at pace. Both share the N./T. sub-variant — detached, analytically directed, comfortable with abstraction and disengaged from immediate physical or somatic concerns. Both are Dynamic and extroverted, continuously processing and producing rather than arriving at settled conclusions. Two people who appear to be thinking hard about something, fast, without stopping.

Super-Ego relation illustration for ILE and SEE

Super-Ego · with SEE — The Politician

ILE and SEE

Same structural rule. ILE's Ne sits at SEE's Role position. SEE's Se sits at ILE's Role position. Both operating from full strength. Both landing where the other strains most.

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation — detached conceptual imagination. The ILE generates and manipulates concepts from outside them, building semantic architecture, tracing possibility space with analytical curiosity. The engagement is exploratory and formally disengaged from the physical present. The body is incidental. The concept is everything.

Extinguishment relation illustration for ILE and ILI

Extinguishment · with ILI — The Critic

ILE and ILI

Conflict relation illustration for ILE and ESI

Conflict · with ESI — The Guardian

ILE and ESI

Same structural rule. ESI's base Fi(S.) sits exactly at ILE's D2 Vulnerable. ILE's base Ne(T.) sits exactly at ESI's D2 Vulnerable.

ESI leads with Fi(S.) Animus — visceral particular bonds, settled felt verdicts about specific persons and objects. In ILE's Model L stack, Fi(S.) sits at the Vulnerable position. ILE is genuinely inept with visceral particular relational conviction, treats it with careless indifference. When ESI's particular felt bonds fill the shared space — settled aversions and affinities asserted with the weight of constitutive relational certainty — ILE has no functional register to receive it. The particular conviction does not translate into anything the ILE's conceptual architecture can map or engage.

Supervision: Supervisor relation illustration for ILE and LSI

Supervision: Supervisor · with LSI — The Inspector

ILE and LSI

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation and creates with Ti(N.) Intellect. The Ti(N.) creative flows naturally as the structural resolution that organises and makes navigable the concept space ILE generates — abstract communicable framework in service of conceptual exploration. The ILE is not trying to replace LSI's embodied procedure with abstract theory. The structural clarity serves the generative orientation.

Supervision: Supervisee relation illustration for ILE and EII

Supervision: Supervisee · with EII — The Humanist

ILE and EII

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation — 4d, 4p, detached conceptual architecture at maximum strength. Against EII's Ne(F.) creative this lands on a 3d position. The ILE's conceptual generation genuinely adjusts EII's felt imaginative inspiration. But this is the lesser pressure.

Benefit: Benefactor relation illustration for ILE and EIE

Benefit: Benefactor · with EIE — The Orator

ILE and EIE

ILE leads with Ne(T.) Ideation — detached conceptual architecture as primary mode. The Ti(N.) Intellect creative flows naturally as the structural resolution that organises and makes navigable the concept space: abstract communicable logical framework in service of conceptual exploration. The ILE is not trying to ground EIE's rhetoric in procedure. The structural clarity simply organises the concepts.

ILE and LSE

LSE leads with Te(S.) Praxis — hands-on practical effectiveness as primary mode. The Si(T.) Observation creative flows naturally as the controlled sensory observation that evaluates practical results: disciplined external sensory precision in service of finding what works. The LSE is not trying to provide somatic ease for the ILE. The sensory observation simply evaluates the practical outcomes.

A Note on This Type

What Model L Adds

ILE vs IEE Model L distinction banner

Model A identifies ILE as Ne-leading with Ti Creative. Model-L specifies that this is Ne(T.) — Ideation, the detached generation and manipulation of conceptual possibilities, supported by Ti(N.) — Intellect, the coherent articulation of those concepts.

This distinction matters most when separating ILE from IEE. Both lead with Ne in Model A terms, but ILE's Ne(T.) treats possibilities as conceptual objects to test, recombine, and systematise. IEE's Ne(F.) is personally vivid and inspirational. The domain is the same; the mode is different.

For ILE, Model-L shows why invention and structural explanation appear together: possibility comes first, but it immediately seeks a precise logical frame.

Attribution: Model-L is Kimani White's original framework. This interpretation is the author's own.

B Radial Group

Supported Same-Club Positions

B positions share the A capacity's rational or irrational club orientation. They are radial, foreground, and resistant: available as conscious support, but not as effortless as the central A cross.

Habitus Model L element illustration

B1 — Correspondent

Ti(S.) — Habitus

Derivation: radial + foreground + resistant · 3D / 2P

Conscious support that can correspond with the A region. It is capable enough to be useful, but it asks for deliberate handling rather than automatic expression.

Actuation Model L element illustration

B2 — Collaborative

Se(T.) — Actuation

Derivation: radial + foreground + resistant · 2D / 3P

A visible support position that collaborates with the type's central orientation. It receives attention and can help the profile work outwardly, but it is less dimensionally equipped than the A positions.

Praxis Model L element illustration

B3 — Compensatory

Te(S.) — Praxis

Derivation: radial + foreground + resistant · 2D / 3P

A compensating support position. It helps cover less central areas of the cross while still requiring conscious effort and structural management.

Observation Model L element illustration

B4 — Instrumental

Si(T.) — Observation

Derivation: radial + foreground + resistant · 3D / 2P

A workable instrument. It can be applied when needed as practical support, without becoming the type's main orientation.

C Radial Group

Contrasting Opposite-Club Positions

C positions take the opposite club orientation from A. They are radial, background, and facile: indirect resources that complement the type's main cross from the contrasting axis.

Soul Model L element illustration

C1 — Subsidiary

Fi(N.) — Soul

Derivation: radial + background + facile · 3D / 2P

Quiet background support from the contrasting club orientation. It works as a subsidiary resource rather than a leading concern.

Inspiration Model L element illustration

C2 — Negligent

Ne(F.) — Inspiration

Derivation: radial + background + facile · 2D / 3P

Indirect background material that may be psychologically noticeable but is easy to neglect. It colours the profile without becoming a central task.

Sentiment Model L element illustration

C3 — Prompting

Fe(N.) — Sentiment

Derivation: radial + background + facile · 2D / 3P

A prompting support position. It nudges the type toward material that complements the A capacity from the opposing axis.

Reverie Model L element illustration

C4 — Galvanizing

Ni(F.) — Reverie

Derivation: radial + background + facile · 3D / 2P

A galvanizing support position. It shapes output from the contrasting axis, adding momentum without becoming a direct Model A anchor.
